We’ve received a distress call from Trat.
A female dog with an arrow in her eye. No one can touch or catch her. Trat is not part of our animal welfare area, since we have more than enough to do on Koh Chang. But as with Goldie, there are cases where we simply cannot ignore the dog’s plight.
So our team of five women drove there, and sure enough, they were able to catch the female dog, who had just given birth, along with all seven puppies. Unfortunately, the local vet was closed because he was out on a vaccination campaign. So we took the dog and all the puppies with us and went to our own vet. The X-ray revealed that the arrow was actually a bent fishing hook. Nothing is ever simple.
But our vet was able to remove the hook without damaging the eye. After just one day, we already knew she would be able to keep her eyesight. Since she is very shy and also thin, we fed her as well as we could. She was also spayed after the puppies found homes.
She clearly showed that she misses her freedom, something we see time and again in dogs that have only ever lived outdoors.
We then took the dog back to Trat and hope she has a long and happy life ahead of her.
