Emily & Mackenzie – River House

Wow. Where to even start with this review! Mack and I worked for 1 month here nd wish that we were able to stay for an entire year. Such a profound and wonderful experience with the “Street Dogs” team. We would work from 10 AM until 2 PM feeding over 100 stray dogs on the island with fresh meat and rice. It was hard work but it was so rewarding. If there was an emergency with an animal, we would need to pick them up and stay with the animal at the vet. The team (Mo, Maew, Nancy and Daw) were such bundles of light and joy, we were always laughing and smiling. They let us ask questions and get our hands dirty. We learned so much and it was so so so hard to say goodbye. We were even able to help out at a spaying/neutering and vaccination pop-up on the island, offered entirely for free to the locals! The work this organization is doing is truly admirable and we were so happy to have been able to be a part of it.

Logistics side of things:
– The accommodation is beautiful and located in the jungle. Close to amenities by scooter. There is a bed, table and bathroom in each unit and they are clean!
– The kitchen is stocked with spices and oil but if you chose to cook, you have to buy your own ingredients (cheap!)
– A motorbike is provided for you to use and is very useful in getting around the island

Highly recommend and will be returning to work here!
